Social distancing in the workplace: Social Distancing Tag T-10R

In the face of the pandemic of Covid-19, organizations returning to work need to reinvent themselves in order to minimize the risk of the virus spreading. More than ever it is important that we look after each other to ensure that we can work safely in the new normal.

According to the Center for disease control and prevention (CDC), the best way to reduce potential infections between individuals is to simply maintain a physical distance of at least 6 feet. To simplify keeping that distance, the team at Claitec came up with a straightforward solution: the T-10R SD (Social Distance Sensor). Workers that are equipped with the Social Distance Tag will immediately be alarmed through the tag when a pre-programmed distance is breached. That way, the safety of all workers can be ensured and possible infections can be reduced.

1. How can social distancing in the workplace be improved with the Social Distancing Tag T-10R?

The T-10R SD is a solution for proximity control designed to preserve the physical distance between people in the same workplace such as logistics centers, warehouses, workshops as well as offices.

2. How does the system work?

When two people that are both equipped with the social distancing tag approach each other, the tag on both sides will firstly turn on an orange warning signal at a distance of 13 feet. As soon as the distance between the two persons becomes less than 6 feet, the social distancing tag will start to turn red and additionally it will start beeping.

That way, both persons know that they are too close to each other and thus need to increase their distance. This will drastically minimise the risk of infection.

Please note that the distance between the tags are also configurable, depending on the use case. Moreover, the interactions of all tag carriers can be synced into a cloud to be able to quickly inform everyone who may have had contact with an infectious person.

3. What does the equipment look like? 

The T-10RSD tag is a long-lasting active RFID device intended to ensure a safety perimeter of 6 feet between people (the distance recommended by the Center for disease control and prevention (CDC)).

The T-10RSD Badge is an adaptation of the T-10RSD tag, which also acts as a card holder. This enables the tag holder to only carry a single device that includes the safety tag and the personal identification card.
